What is Red Skin Rash?

If you have broken out into a rash, and if you suddenly feel itchy all over and want to scratch yourself regardless of everyone’s reminders, then you may need to run to your doctor, and quickly! However, you might not always be able to run to your doctor. In fact, you can suddenly get a rash at the most inopportune times, when you are least likely to find a doctor and get one immediately. If you suddenly get a rash and are unsure of what it is, don’t scratch, and most of all, don’t panic.

There are many things that could have caused your rash. For instance, you might have been bitten by an insect, and this could be likely if you are hiking out in the woods in the summer, hanging out in your backyard where there is a lot of stagnant water about, or even simply walking down the street. You may actually have allergies or allergic reactions to insect bites without you knowing it! An insect bite will appear anywhere, it will be quite itchy, and it will show itself sometimes as a bright red bump, other times as a pink bump, depending on the insect that bit you.

You may also have an allergic reaction to anything. Surprisingly, there are a lot of potential allergens all around you, and you could fall prey to them depending on the state of your immune system, and even on your level of stress. Stress can actually cause allergies to happen, and they can exacerbate the effects of allergies, so take heed. You can also be allergic to anything from something that you ate, something that you breathed in, a medication that you took recently, and even something that you simply came in contact with. If you are suspicious that your rash is the cause of an allergic reaction, then think back to all the things that you ate, drank, and touched; as well as all the places that you have been to and all the things that you did. Your assessment may help your doctor save your life.

Simply brushing against a skin irritant, such as dry or scaly cloth, can cause rashes. This is most evident in infants who suffer from cradle cap, or an irritation of the skin around the forehead. Sometimes, simply taking the irritant away will take your rash away. However, if your rash remains for a long while, you may need to consult your doctor. This rash can be caused by anything from jewelries, cloth, clothing dyes, sometimes even frayed hems or cuts that are too tight.

Your rash might also be the sign of a bacterial or a viral infection. For instance, you may have the beginnings of measles and chicken pox. If you are nursing a fever, and if you feel weak, are coughing, and have a sore throat, then you may need to consult further with your doctor and start getting shots. Thanks to modern vaccination, however, these infections are quite rare, but it’s never harmful to be sure.

There are still many different possible causes of red rashes, and you may need to not only consult with your doctor, but to do your own research as well. It is important to remember not to scratch your rashes, and not to self medicate. For instance, taking antibiotics will be futile if your rash is simply due to contact with an irritant, or if you actually have a viral infection. As long as you have some practical knowledge on what ails you, you cannot go wrong.
