Taking Care of that Facial Rash
An unsightly facial rash can be embarrassing, and people with facial rashes will often resort to drastic, unorthodox methods in order to get rid of their rash. However, facial rashes can be caused by a great many underlying factors, and sometimes, because of their visibility, a facial rash can be all about distress and alarm rather than extremity of cause. There are many different kinds of facial rashes as well: some may disappear within a few days and clear up on their own, while others will require a quick visit to the doctor.
There are also different causes of facial rashes, and sometimes, a rash might not even be the right term. For instance, acne can be mistaken for a rash: acne is a clogging of the pores, and not a blotch of skin where the body is mounting a reaction to an external source. Acne treatment will often be done on many different fronts, from oral medication that will keep the body’s immune system from working overtime, to topical creams that will close pores and keep acne from recurring.
Another cause of facial rashes is sun exposure. Some people can be sensitive to the sun, and some skin types can start forming anything from mild rashes to large, dark blotches as a reaction to sun exposure. There are also diseases that cause facial rashes, such as lupus or dermatitis. Moreover, rashes can be brought about by allergies or exposure to a skin irritant. This can include ingesting allergenic foods such as chocolate or peanuts, drinking medication to which the body is allergic, or even breathing in allergens such as dust or pollen. The rashes that appear due to this type of exposure can be irregular in form, blotchy, and pink.
If you start getting scaly skin around your eyebrows, near your mouth, around your nose, or behind your ears, then you may have seborrhea. If this occurs in the scalp, it can cause dandruff. Seborrhea can be quite irritating, and you may find yourself scratching your eyes, nose, ears, mouth, and hair because of the irritation of scaly skin. There is still no one known cause for dandruff, although it may look like a fungal infection.
If you are always out in the heat, then your skin may start producing a rash as well. You may need to find ways to relieve your body of what is known as a heat rash. Try putting some corn starch in the creases of your body, such as those inside your elbows, since these can store moisture and lead to rashes. When you finally get out of work, take a bath, preferably in cool water, and avoid using soap first, as this may exacerbate the rash. Avoid using creams, ointments, or other thick substances that may clog your pores and make your rashes worse. You might also want to air dry your skin. If you must apply lotion, place calamine on, which can relieve your itching. Keep your skin dry so as not to make your rashes reappear.
These are only a few tips that you may want to take into account when you get a facial rash. Remember, there are many causes of facial rashes, so the key is to keep yourself clean and dry, but not to self medicate. The underlying cause of your rashes can be better understood by your doctor, and he or she can prescribe better medication that will allow you relief soon.
