Scabies Rash
Scabies is a disease that infects the skin, and it is caused by a mite, which is a type of insect. Scabies is also very contagious. The mites that cause scabies tunnel into the skin and live on the outer layer of it. This induces the skin to form pimple-like bumps, which show up as irritations, or the scabies rash. This is because the scabies mites lay eggs in their home beneath the skin, and feed on the blood of the person infected with them. Because these mites are very small, and because they are almost transparent, they cannot be easily seen by the naked eye. If you are infected by scabies, you may see red blisters on your skin, and you may suffer from extreme and irritating itching, which can often happen at night. This is due to your body mounting an allergic reaction to the scabies mite and its waste products.
Scabies mites will usually be present and cause rashes in the areas between your fingers and toes, around your wrists, in your armpits, in your beltline and across your abdomen, in the folds of your elbow, in thinner pieces of skin such as those surrounding the nipples and genitalia, and in your buttocks. If scabies mites infect babies, the babies will usually get it on their face, the soles of their feet, or on their scalp.
When people are first infected by the scabies mite, the rashes will appear anywhere from within two to six weeks after the first entrance of the mite into the body. However, if the person who is infected by the scabies mite has already been infected before, then this infection will show up within a few days post entrance of the mite. Scabies is also contagious in that it can spread directly from the skin of an infected person to the skin of an uninfected person. It can also be spread through contact with beddings, clothes, and other materials that have already previously come into contact with a person who has been infected with scabies. Sometimes, the mere shaking of hands can pass scabies on. Even sexual contact is a way to get the scabies mite.
If pets get scabies, you cannot get it from them. Scabies mites will infect only humans, and outside of the human body, scabies mites can survive for only up to four days. If you have scabies, you can spread the mites and you will no longer be contagious only when all the mites and their eggs are taken away completely by treatment. This means that not only you should be treated, but everyone around you, anyone with whom you are intimately connected, and everything that you have touched or come into contact with should be treated as well. This means that all your beddings should either be washed thoroughly or discarded.
However, no single treatment can take away scabies mites, since you also need to kill scabies mite eggs. Some treatments are only palliative in that they end your itching and stop your pain, but will not get to the root of the source. You will need to keep on consulting with your doctor in order to get treatment for your scabies, and to make sure that the people around you do not get it. Moreover, you will need to continue treatment in order to keep yourself scabies free for a longer time.
