How Not to Treat that Itchy Skin Rash

Getting a rash can be inconvenient, not to mention disgusting. If you are constantly on the go, and if you have to do a lot of work throughout the day, it can be annoying to have to scratch a rash, much less get one. You might also be afraid that you are getting an infection or a sickness that has to be treated immediately. Before you start panicking, however, you will need to take note of a few tips that you could use to not only get on with your life and not worry first, but also give your doctor some clues as to how your rash started. This can help your doctor choose the best treatment regimen for you and get you treated faster.

First, if you already have pre-existing allergies, always make a note of them. This is especially important when you have to go abroad for conferences or meetings, since you may be served food that you know little or nothing about. Always notify the conference organizers about what allergies you have, and always keep a note on your body on what you are allergic to. Not only will this help you when you get an allergic reaction, but it can tell paramedics what not to give you. For instance, you may be allergic to certain antibiotics such as those that are derived from penicillin, so you need to keep a note on yourself that will notify doctors not to administer penicillin.

Be observant and vigilant. If you are in a new place, you might be put into contact with potential allergens, and you may not be aware of it if you are working a lot. Take note of all these potential allergens and irritants. They can include the food that you eat, the liquids that you drink, the plants that you come into contact with, the insects that are around you, even clothes that might contain allergenic dyes. A lot of things can cause rashes, so you will need to be vigilant.

Be clean. You may feel stodgy and like a hypochondriac with constant wiping and cleaning, but dust can cause rashes, and you will need to keep your things clean if you want to keep yourself free from sickness. Moreover, furniture that is not cleaned constantly or well maintained can be a hothouse for fungi, bacteria, and viruses, which can also cause rashes. By keeping your place and things clean, you also prevent rashes from occurring. While cleaning, however, exercise necessary precautions, such as covering your mouth and nose while cleaning, or wearing gloves, so that you do not end up with a rash yourself.

Do not self medicate! It might be tempting for you to start drinking antibiotics or rubbing lotion all over your rashes, but your rashes might be caused by a virus, which cannot be controlled by antibiotics; and your lotion may contain substances that can trigger an allergic reaction, or that can make your rash worse. Avoid making judgments about your rash on your own, and instead, consult with your doctor, providing all information about your whereabouts and all the things that you’ve drunk and eaten that could have possibly triggered the rash.

These are only a few suggestions that you may want to consider when you start getting a rash. Always do a lot of research, and make sure that you follow your doctor’s instructions to the letter.
